A/Prof Catherine Quinlan is a Paediatric Nephrologist, Clinician Scientist, Principal Fellow, and Deputy Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne. She also serves as Academic Lead for Graduate Research at the Melbourne Medical School and is based at the Royal Children's Hospital and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI). Her research focuses on genetic kidney disease, early disease detection, and integrating genomics into clinical care to improve outcomes for children.

As a health services researcher, her work spans nephrology, genomics, educational research, and implementation science, with a particular interest in data-driven approaches, including electronic medical record analytics and wearable technology for paediatric blood pressure monitoring.

Catherine established the statewide kidney genetics service in Victoria and leads the Kidney Flagship at MCRI, a research program supporting children and young adults with kidney disease. She plays a key leadership role as Deputy Head of the Department of Paediatrics, driving strategic research and academic development.

She holds medical degrees from the National University of Ireland (MB BAO BCh) and postgraduate qualifications in education, research, and business from Queen's University Belfast (MScMedEd), University College London (MDRes), and Monash University (ExecMBA). A dual-trained paediatrician and nephrologist, she is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (FRCPI) the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the American Society of Nephrology (FASN).

Mainstreaming genomics into clinical practice
Identifying novel genes for kidney disease
Health economic analysis of genomic sequencing
Using electronic medical record data for early kidney disease recognition
Paediatric blood pressure research, screening, and prevention
